DRESSING UP
Life Imitating Art
One of the funniest things I have seen on social media is a facebook site called Terrible Art in Charity Shops. For people to upload their photos of any funny or amazingly awful art they find in charity shops, with the rule that the specific shop, location and price of the art are mentioned too. This does result in sales for the shops.
But as lockdown started members ran out of new pictures to upload as they were unable to go out on their usual charity shop hunts. This was much discussed on the site.
Meanwhile, the Getty Museum had launched a challenge on the internet for people to dress up as their favourite famous works of art and upload their photographs, with some success as real life Mona Lisas, Girls with Pearl Earrings and Ophelias started to appear online. Some paintings are faithfully represented in serious fashion, others have taken a more low-tech light hearted approach.

One day a member of the Terrible Art in Charity Shops page dressed up as one of the terrible artworks and uploaded the art and her own photo of her interpretation. This resulted in much hilarity and hundreds of members have followed suit. The results are laugh out loud funny.
One of the terrible art paintings, of a very badly painted llama, has given rise to a whole genre of interpretations now nicknamed Llamageddon!
People dress up, dress their kids and pets up, use toys, vegetables, sock puppets, anything as stand-ins, reproducing the terrible paintings using whatever is to hand. Toilet rolls and bananas are popular props. Often the interpretation is much more terrible than the original, earning extra likes and kudos.

Double Date Night
We have my daughter and her partner here staying with us, which I am so grateful for. It is so good to have twenty-somethings around, the house feels much more alive. The girls dig the garden, do all the shopping, help us with tech issues and come up with fresh ideas.
Their best idea so far is Double Date Night.
We are taking turns in couples to throw a dinner party in the kitchen, treating it like a real get dressed up occasion with good food, good wine and good music, then party games and dancing to follow.
I put on my best cruise outfits and Chris wears his suits, smart shirts and ties.
The girls wear lovely things and lots of make up. Then their beautiful Norwegian Forest Cat Puss turns up looking fabulous with no effort beyond a quick cat lick and shows us how natural elegance is done.
Double Date Night has become such an enjoyable family get together, giving a new structure to our weeks. Staying in really is the new going out! Well worth getting Dressed Up for.
